Meliodas' curse will be lifted once he defeats all of the Ten Commandments. As for the bold part, the Commandments are still functioning even though the Demon King is dead, which means that it likely didn't matter if he killed the Demon King or not. As for being cursed in purgatory, that would mean that Meliodas would've aged to that point since he did not die during the Holy War (or else the Ten Commandments would've been aware of his revival), and we know that's not the case since he remained young and Estarossa aged.
